
Panthers Topple Coyotes 3-0

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team opened the 2009 regular season with a 3-0 victory over South Dakota Sunday afternoon. The Panthers outshot the Coyotes 20-14 with Chelsie Hochstedler leading the way with 10 shots.
Kala Negus scored the first goal of the 2009 season for the Panthers in the 47th minute, taking a pass from Missy Journot. Hochstedler then added the second goal only minutes later, scoring in the 49th minute.
Freshman Kiki MCClellan scored off a Melissa Hagan pass in the 56th minute to seal the Panther victory/
Goalkeeper Lauren Potzman registered four saves in the contest for the Panthers.
“We started off playing a little slowly in the first half,” UNI head coach James Price said. “In the second half we played much quicker soccer and made better decisions in the final third of the field. It is always nice to be able to keep shutout against a good opponent.”
The Panthers return to action Friday, August 28 when they travel to North Dakota. Kickoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
