
Panthers Top Evansville for 17th Straight Win

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The University of Northern Iowa volleyball team extended their winning streak to 17, topping Evansville 3-0 Friday evening. UNI won the match by scores of 25-18, 25-13, 25-17.
Senior Shannon Aschoff led the Panthers (19-2, 10-0) with 15 kills. Freshman Amy Braun and sophomore Michelle Burrow each added eight kills in the win. Bre Payton finished the evening with 34 assists while Ellie Blankenship recorded 21 digs.
The Purple Aces jumped out to a 7-3 lead in the first set before UNI went on a 6-1 run to take the lead. Evansville tied the score four times, but could never get ahead again as the Panthers won the first set 25-18.
In set two the Panthers jumped to an early 8-3 lead with back-to-back kills from Aschoff and Krista DeGeest. The Purple Aces mounted a comeback, knotting the score at 10-10. UNI then went on a 15-3 run to end the set with a score of 25-13.
Leading 9-8 in the third set, the Panthers rattled off four straight points off back-to-back kills by Aschoff. Evansville would close the gap at 16-14, but the Panthers finished the set with an 11-3 run.
UNI returns to action on Saturday traveling to Southern Illinois. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
