
Panthers Fall 69-51 to Creighton

The
Nicole Clausen led UNI with 11 points, and Lizzie Boeck finished with 10 points and seven rebounds. Creighton's Ally Thrall led all scorers with 14 points.
Thrall put the Bluejays up 23-17 with a layup at 9:46 in the first half, but Traci Ollendieck hit a three to cut the Creighton lead in half, 23-20. Creighton went on a 13-2 run over the next six minutes to extend its lead to 36-22 with 2:40 left in the period.
Trailing 38-24, Clausen hit a pair of free throws with less than two seconds left to send the Panthers into the break trailing by a dozen, 38-26.
The Panthers were never able hit their offensive stride early in the second half, mustering only three free throws from Alexa Mennen in the first six minutes of the period, allowing Creighton to hold onto at least a 13-point lead.
Erin Brocka scored the first field goal of the half, knocking down a mid-range jumper at 13:34 that brought the score to 43-31 in favor of CU.
Creighton's Sam Schuett was fouled as she hit a layup, and her free-throw gave the Bluejays a 15-point advantage, 46-31 with 13:11 to play.
Clausen hit a layup, and Brocka was fouled as she scored, sending her to the line with a chance to make it a 10-point game. The free throw wouldn't fall, however, and Creighton scored the game's next five points to extend its lead to 50-35 with 10:46 to play.
Ollendieck hit a three to pull the Panthers within 12, but the Bluejays used a 9-0 run to stretch their lead to 59-38 with 7:34 remaining. The Panthers were never able to cut their deficit to less than 17 from that point.
UNI shot 17-of-58 (29 percent) from the floor, including 4-of-14 (29 percent) from the three-point range. The Panthers were 13-of-18 (72 percent) from the free-throw line.
Creighton was 23-of-50 (46 percent) from the floor, including 5-of-12 (42 percent) from three-point range. Creighton was 18-of-20 (90 percent) from the free-throw line.
Creighton outrebounded the Panthers 43-29, and the Bluejays outscored UNI in the paint, 30-14.
The Panthers return to action on Sunday when they host Drake at 3:05 p.m. in the final home game of the season.
