Panthers Fall 71-63 at Creighton

Traci Ollendieck led the Panthers (6-11, 2-4) with a season-high 19 points. She also led UNI with nine rebounds and four steals. Jacqui Kalin scored 16 points for UNI, and Lizzie Boeck finished with 10.
Sam Schuett was one of four Bluejays (10-7, 3-3) to score in double figures, finishing with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Kelsey Woodard added 12 points for Creighton, and Kristina Voss and Ally Thrall added 11 and 10 points, respectively.
The Panthers and Bluejays traded one-point leads five times through the game's first four minutes. Trailing 6-5, Creighton scored 11 straight points to build a 16-6 lead with 12:57 left in the first half.
Jacqui Kalin made one of two free throws to end UNI's scoring drought and cut the Panther deficit to single digits, 16-7 with 12:15 on the clock.
The Panthers continued to chip away at the Bluejay lead, climbing back within seven points twice. UNI trailed Creighton 23-15 when Kelsey Woodard and Ally Thrall hit threes on back-to-back possessions to put the Bluejays in front, 29-15. Sam Schuett connected on a pair of free throws to cap an 8-0 run by Creighton that put CU in front, 31-15 at 4:23.
Kalin scored five straight points to cut the Creighton lead to 31-20 with 3:23 on the clock.
The Bluejays scored the game's next five points to build a 16-point lead. Lizzie Boeck scored inside the final minute of the half to send the Panthers into the locker room trailing, 36-22.
Kalin and Ollendieck scored on consecutive trips to pull the Panthers within 10, and Kalin connected on another layup to cut the Creighton lead to eight, 36-28 with 17:49 left to play. The teams traded baskets, but Creighton used a 9-0 run to extend its lead to 47-30 with 14:47 remaining.
Traci Ollendieck scored the Panthers' next six points, three from the free-throw line and three from behind the arc, pulling the Panthers within 13, 49-36. At 11:30, Kalin connected on a pair of free throws to make it an 11-point game, 49-38.
Leading by 11, Creighton's Kristina Voss scored five quick points to stretch the Bluejay lead to 56-40 at 9:59. Ollendieck hit another pair of free throws for the Panthers, but Schuett connected from behind the arc to give Creighton a 17-point lead at 9:59, 59-42.
Nicole Clausen used a pair of free throws, a steal and layup and a three to score seven straight points for the Panthers, pulling UNI within 10, 59-49 at 8:17.
Boeck hit a pair of free throws to make it an eight-point game, but Sara Cain scored to put the Creighton lead back to 10. Ollendieck and Kelsey Crites traded baskets to keep the Bluejay lead at 10, 63-53 with 4:13 remaining.
Schuett connected from long range, and Voss hit a pair of free throws to make it a 68-53 Creighton lead with 2:54 to play.
Clausen hit another jumper and Ollendieck hit her second three of the game to trim the Bluejay advantage to 68-58 with 1:03 on the clock. UNI elected to send the Bluejays to the line, where they connected on 3-of-5 attempts inside the final minute. With the Panthers trailing 71-60 and 14 seconds remaining, Danielle Wubbens completed a three-point play with a layup and free throw to make the final score 71-63.
The Panthers were 21-of-58 (36.2 percent) from the floor in the game, and 4-of-13 (30.8 percent) from three-point range. UNI finished 17-of-22 (77.3 percent) from the free-throw line.
Creighton was 24-of-58 from the floor (41.4 percent), including 7-of-21 (33.3 percent) from the three-point line. The Bluejays were 16-of-20 (80 percent) from the free-throw line.
Creighton held a 45-35 rebounding advantage, and the Bluejays turned 13 offensive rebounds into 16 second-chance points.
UNI returns to action on Sunday afternoon when it plays at in-state rival Drake.
