PANTHERS FALL 3-0 TO SDSU
Cedar Falls, IA - The University of Northern Iowa women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 decision to South Dakota State in the season opener.
Good passing and strong physical play couldn't propel the Panthers to victory. The Jacks scored the game's opening goal 7:10 into the game and held a 1-0 lead into halftime. Two second-half goals, one coming on a corner kick, gave SDSU a 3-0 advantage at the 61st minute. The Jacks held the Panther scoring attack and left the Cedar Valley Soccer Complex with a 3-0 victory.
Allie Sowell (Overland Park, Kan/Shawnee Mission S.) played aggresively in the back, leading the Panther defense with a physical style of play. Lindsey Daugherty (Loveland, Co/Thompson Valley) pulled double duty, leading the Panthers on both the offensive and defensive ends.
"Allie and Lindsey stepped up and showed the kind of aggressiveness our team needs to be successful," said head coach Kathy Kakoyianni-Bering. "They led by example tonight."
The Panthers meet Western Illinois in Macomb, Ill on Sunday, Aug 27. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
