UNI Sets UNI-Dome Record for Threes in 87-64 Win over UMKC

Cedar Falls, Iowa - The University of Northern Iowa men's basketball team set a UNI-Dome record by making 14 three-pointers in an 87-64 win over UMKC Saturday night. With the win, UNI improves to 6-1 on the season, while UMKC falls to 3-3.
The Panthers nailed 14-of-28 three-pointers as a team, and hit 56.1 percent of their field goal attempts overall. The Panthers also recorded an impressive 24 assists on 32 made field goals, and outrebounded UMKC 43-26. UNI's held the Kangaroos to just 40 percent shooting on the night, and for the seventh straight time this season, held its opponent to less than 70 points.
UMKC jumped out to a quick 13-7 lead to start the game, with eight of the points scored by guard Quinton Day. But UNI responded with a 27-4 run over the next 11 minutes to open a 34-17 advantage and put the game away. UNI led 40-21 at the break and UMKC didn't get closer than 17 points the second half. UNI's lead grew to as much as 30 points after intermission.
UNI sophomore guard Adam Viet (Ackley, Iowa) led the way with five treys, en route to a career-high and team-high 15 points. Erik Crawford (Oakdale, Minn.) had three three-pointers, while John Little (Peoria, Ill.) and Jared Josten (Webster City, Iowa) each had two.
UNI's starting front court duo of Grant Stout (New Sharon, Iowa) and Eric Coleman (Maplewood, Minn.) each had a double-double on the night. Stout scored 11 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, while Coleman had 12 points and a career-best 14 boards. Starting point guard Brooks McKowen (Fairbank, Iowa) had seven points and eight assists with no turnovers. UMKC's Day led all players with 27 points.
The Panthers next game is a week from tonight (Dec. 17) when they host Florida A&M at the UNI-Dome. Tipoff is at 7:05 p.m.
