West Gym
The West Gymnasium previously served as the competition and training home for UNI Wrestling. It was previously used for volleyball, men's basketball and women's basketball, in addition to housing offices for softball, track & field. The West Gym also served as a home to UNI's ROTC program and classroom space in previous years, and was a practice site for UNI's cheer, dance and spirit squads.
Built in 1925 for a mere $180,000, the West Gym was an intimidating place for opposing teams to compete. With an intimate seating capacity of 2,100 for wrestling, the West Gym filled up quickly and it got very, very loud.
UNI's volleyball team posted two of the longest home winning streaks in NCAA history there, a 50-match streak in the mid-1990s and a 74-match streak from 1997-2004 that is the fourth-longest ever in the nation.
The Panthers won a national title in 1950 when UNI hosted the NCAA Division I National Wrestling Championships in the West Gym.
