John Mosbach joined UNI Athletics in January 2025 as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Development and NIL, bringing over 20 years of experience in collegiate athletics leadership, student-athlete development, and strategic advancement.
As a member of UNI Athletics’ Senior Management Team, Mosbach leads fundraising initiatives in partnership with the Director of Athletics and the UNI Foundation. He plays a key role in planning, coordinating, and executing the department’s comprehensive development strategy, including the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts from individuals and corporations nationwide. His efforts support the athletics component of the university’s $300+ million "Our Tomorrow" campaign, including transformational capital priorities such as the $52 million UNI-Dome renovation, a $15 million court sports facility, and a $5 million wrestling project.
During his first year at UNI, Mosbach contributed to a record-setting $11.5 million raised for Panther Athletics in FY25. He also oversees the athletic department’s participation in UNI’s annual day of giving, Live Purple Give Gold, which generated a record-breaking $400,000+ for athletics in FY26. Working closely with head coaches, he develops sport-specific fundraising strategies aligned with department-wide priorities. He also helped establish UNI’s Competitive Excellence Funds, a critical initiative launched in Fall 2025 to support the evolving revenue-sharing landscape in collegiate athletics.
Prior to joining UNI, Mosbach spent ten years at the University of Arizona, most recently serving as Senior Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Experience and Excellence. As a member of Arizona Athletics’ Executive Team, he led a staff of 15 professionals and oversaw academic services, student-athlete development, and holistic well-being initiatives for more than 500 student-athletes. His leadership extended across the department, including service as chair of the Student-Athlete Conduct Advisory Committee, membership on the Health and Wellness Committee, and representation on the university’s Hazing Prevention Coalition.
At Arizona, Mosbach managed the department’s $3 million Alston Fund and co-chaired the committee responsible for developing The Wildcat Way, the department’s first comprehensive strategic plan. He also served as sport administrator for women’s tennis and men’s and women’s swimming and diving, while providing secondary oversight for baseball and soccer programs.
In addition to his student-athlete development responsibilities, Mosbach partnered with the University of Arizona Foundation and athletics development staff to secure major philanthropic investments, including a $5.95 million gift to athletics as part of a broader $14 million university-wide commitment.
Before Arizona, Mosbach spent eight years at the University of Southern California, where he advanced from Academic Counselor to Assistant Athletic Director within Student-Athlete Academic Services. During his tenure, he provided academic support and advising to Trojan student-athletes while helping oversee summer orientation, assisted with financial aid coordination, and student-athlete transition programming.
Nationally, Mosbach has been an active contributor to collegiate athletics professional development and leadership initiatives. He is a member of the National Association of Athletic Development Directors (NAADD) and currently serves as the Missouri Valley Conference representative to the organization. He is a graduate of the Sport Management Institute (SMI), completed the N4A Professional Development Institute Leadership Track, and has served as faculty for both N4A’s New Practitioner and Leader-Manager programs. In 2026, he was selected to participate in the NACDA Senior Mentoring Institute.
A native of Iowa, Mosbach earned his Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration with an emphasis in Sport Management from Wartburg College in 2004, where he was a member of the football team. He later earned a Master of Science in Sport Management from University of Tennessee in 2006 after serving as a graduate assistant in academic advising.
John and his wife, Godfrey, have two sons, Johnnie and Mason.
