Elena Lushine was named to the all-area first team in 2010 and 2011. She was named a team captain for Duluth East in 2011 and 2012. She is currently injured and has not been able to play this season. She was a captain on the basketball team in 2012. She has been on the 3.5 honor roll for the past three years of high school. Minnesota North is her current club volleyball team.
"Elena is an extremely athletic middle blocker who will bring size and strength to that position," said UNI head coach Bobbi Petersen. "She is very physical and has a remarkable presence at the net. Elena has a heavy arm and can attack anywhere along the net which will allow her to be very versatile as an attacker. She also brings a big block and with her potential for lateral quickness could be an integral part of our defense. Elena is coming off an injury that we know will have her very hungry to get on the court and compete."
Personal: Born March 2, 1995… daughter of Karen Lushine… has one younger sister, Elisa… major is undecided… also a four year letter winner in basketball
