UNI falls at Indiana State in MVC opener, 2-0

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. --- The UNI soccer team dropped its 2026 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) opener on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Indiana State Sycamores by a 2-0 score at Memorial Stadium.
Northern Iowa held the Sycamores scoreless for the first 72 minutes of play before Indiana State scored twice in a seven minute span. UNI was outshot by a 13-3 margin, as well as 7-2 in shot attempts on goal.

ÂHOW IT HAPPENED
The Sycamores tested Panther goalkeeper Hailey Luedtke with scoring opportunities early, putting three shots on goal within the first three minutes of game action. UNI's Alli Saviano had the UNI's lone shot on goal of the half in the 33rd minute, which was saved by Indiana State's Sofie Zoega Hansen. The Sycamores would attempt three more shots in the first half but failed to find the back of the net. Â
Indiana State's Tori Angelo broke the scoreless tie in the 72nd minute after slipping a shot past Luedtke for a 1-0 lead. The Sycamores would add another score just seven minutes later with Madison Ziebarth finding the back of the net in the 79th minute.
Kylie Knief and Saviano led the Panther offense with one shot on goal attempt each in the contest, with Kailey O'Brien also recording one shot attempt in the afternoon. Luedtke recorded five saves in net for the Panthers, while Poppy Anderson also played the final eight minutes at keeper.Â

The Panthers return to action next Sunday, Sept. 27when they host the Belmont Bruins in MVC action. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT at the UNI Soccer Field with live coverage available on ESPN+.
