UNI student-athletes continue to boast academic success following spring 2026 semester

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI student-athletes continued to show exceptional academic growth both individually and as collective teams during the spring 2026 semester, once again surpassing departmental goals.
The spring semester saw 11 of UNI's 15 teams record a semester grade-point average (GPA) of 3.40 or higher, including six over 3.50. Collectively, Panther student-athletes posted a semester GPA of 3.40 and a cumulative of 3.43, both surpassing the metrics laid out in the athletic department's strategic plan.
"Our student-athletes continue to demonstrate an exceptional commitment to excellence both in competition and in the classroom," said Andrea Greve Coello, UNI's Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. "Their academic success is a reflection of their discipline, resilience and ability to balance the demands of Division I athletics with their educational goals. We are proud of the dedication they show each day and the meaningful impact they make as students, leaders, and members of the university community!"
UNI's volleyball team led all Panther programs with the highest semester GPA with a 3.85 average, their fourth consecutive semester notching a 3.80 or higher. The men's cross country program meanwhile recorded the highest men's semester GPA (3.46), while also boasting the most improvement of any UNI team from the spring 2025 semester to spring 2026.
Individually, 309 of UNI's 409 student-athletes (76%) registered a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher last fall, with 54% coming in at 3.50 or higher. Cumulatively, 82% of Panthers maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better, with 54% of the department over 3.50.
