UNI softball drops a six-inning matchup at Louisiana

LAFAYETTE, Louisiana — The Panthers headed to Lafayette, Louisiana, for a midweek matchup at Louisiana on Tuesday. After the Ragin' Cajuns scored six runs in the first three innings, the Cats put two on the board and eyed a comeback. A pair of home runs in the sixth inning from the Ragin' Cajuns sealed the run-rule matchup for Louisiana with a 10-2, six-inning final score.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Louisiana took a big lead out of the gate with six runs through the first three innings. An error gave the Ragin' Cajuns a run in the bottom of the first, a throwing error and a two-run single saw three cross the plate in the bottom of the second inning, and a two-run home run in the bottom of the third were all six of the Louisiana runs to open the contest.

The Cats got on the board in the top of the fourth inning with a one-run single from Sykora Smith and an RBI from Drew Hinrichs. Kate Lappe and Eve Morris, running for Katelyn Callahan, crossed the plate in the visiting half of the fourth frame.

A pair of home runs from Louisiana in the bottom of the sixth inning sealed the deal for the Ragin' Cajuns as UNI dropped the six-inning contest, 10-2.

BY THE NUMBERS

Katelyn Callahan, Sykora Smith, and Peyton Johnson picked up UNI's lone hits of the game. The trio of Maddy McDermott, Ashlyn Enke, and Anna Wischnowski combined for four strikeouts in the circle.

UP NEXT

The Panthers head to Ruston, Louisiana, to compete in the Bulldog Classic hosted by Louisiana Tech. UNI will take on Stephen F. Austin on Thursday at 6 p.m. CT and Central Arkansas on Friday at 1 p.m. CT before a pair of games on Saturday against Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech at 1 p.m. CT and 7 p.m. CT, respectively. UNI's contest against Louisiana Tech will be available for streaming on ESPN+.
