CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — A week after a strong performance in Missouri, the UNI cross country team returns to action just up the road in Waverly at Wartburg's Dan Huston Invite on Saturday morning.
Competition is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. CT with the men's eight-kilometer race, followed by the women's six-kilometer race at 10:45 a.m. CT. The Panthers will race against a deep regional field including Buena Vista, Central, Cornell (IA), Drake, Elmhurst, Faith Baptist Bible, Gustavus Adolphus, the Iowa State Run Club, Luther and Wartburg.
UNI enters the weekend with a refreshed women's lineup, as several Panthers who raced last Friday at the Gans Creek Classic will rest this week. The group was led in Missouri by Clare Wright, who ran 21:32 to pace the Panthers in the 6K to earn Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women's Runner of the Week honors. Wright was followed closely by Meghan Wheatley (21:42), Josee Simonson (21:47), Kaylee Woolery (21:49), Evie Henneberry (21:53), and Lucy Murphy (21:59). Saturday's meet provides an opportunity for the remainder of the roster to step into scoring roles and continue building depth as the championship portion of the season approaches.
The men's squad also arrives at Wartburg with a fresh group after several Panthers who competed at Gans Creek take the week off. MVC Men's Runner of the Week Chase Lauman led UNI in Missouri with a 24:39 finish in the 8K, followed by Carson Owens (24:54), Ethan Olds (24:57), AJ Willey (25:05), Cooper Erickson (25:09), Jonas VanDis (25:46), and Ty Getz (25:55).
