UNI Athletics celebrates January Student-Athletes of the Month

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI Athletics is proud to honor four outstanding student-athletes with Athlete of the Month awards for January 2026.
The award recipients, voted on by members of UNI's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for their achievements in the month of December, include Trey Campbell (men's basketball), Carter Morton (men's track and field), Ryley Goebel (women's basketball) and Joey Perry (women's track and field).
TREY CAMPBELL - Men's Basketball
A Cedar Falls, Iowa native, Campbell averaged 14.7 points per game in December, posting ten or more points in all six games, including 18 points at Saint Mary's. The senior shot 50% from the field and 42.4% from three-point range during the month and scored his 1,000th career point in a win over Coe (12/1/25).
CARTER MORTON - Men's Track and Field
Morton won the heptathlon in the season-opening meet at the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational with a new UNI and MVC indoor record score of 6,054 points and set new career-best marks in the shot put, high jump, 60m hurdles and 1,000-meter run in the event. He earned MVC Men's Field Athlete of the Week and USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week honors, the first UNI athlete to earn the honor at the national level and finished the month with the best heptathlon score in Division I this season.
Ryley Goebel - Women's Basketball
A senior forward from Urbandale, Iowa, Ryley Goebel averaged 14.1 points per game to help UNI improve to 7-6 on the season and 3-0 in MVC play in games in December. Goebel tallied double-double performances against Illinois State (12/3/25), South Dakota State (12/10/25) and Valparaiso (12/29/25) and scored a season-high 23 points in a road win at UIC (12/31/25). She recorded 15 blocks and 21 steals during the month, leading the MVC this season in total blocks and ranking second in steals at the end of 2025.
Joey Perry - Women's Track and Field
Perry placed second in the pentathlon in the season-opening meet at the Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational and recorded the fourth-highest score in the event in program history with 3,953 points. She set new career-best marks in four of the five events (shot put, long jump, high jump, 60m hurdles).
