Northern Iowa enters Tuesday's night matchup leading the all-time series 35-32 ahead of the first meeting between the two programs since 2022 when the Panthers topped the Cyclones in four sets in Ames. UNI has recorded 17 wins against Big 12 Conference opponents under head coach Bobbi Petersen, and have beaten at least one Big 12 challenger in each of the last three seasons (Iowa State, 2022 / TCU, 2023 / West Virginia, 2024).
The Panthers return to the McLeod Center for their lone home match of September following a third-place team finish at the DoubleTree Invitational in Dallas last weekend, where UNI swept Stony Brook in its tournament opener before falling to No. 11 SMU and Washington. Notching five service aces and three digs per set, redshirt freshman defensive specialist/libero Jadyn Petersen was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Entering this week, Northern Iowa ranks second in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in kills (13.8), assists (12.5) and digs per set (16.1), with junior outside hitter Lily Dykstra leading the league with 3.88 kills per set. Dykstra has notably recorded nine or more terminations in all five matches this season, including six straight matches dating back to last season. Fellow junior outside hitter Cassidy Hartman also looks to inch closer to her 500th career kills sitting 22 shy of a milestone.

SCOUTING IOWA STATE
The Cyclones sport a perfect 5-0 record heading to Cedar Falls on Tuesday night having not dropped a set in wins against Bucknell, Ohio, Central Michigan, Milwaukee and South Alabama. Coming off a 10-18 season in 2024, Iowa State was picked ninth out of 15 teams in this year's Big 12 preseason poll following a four-win conference schedule last year. Â
Led by 21st year head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch, the Cyclone offense enters Tuesday's match as the national leader in both kills per set (15.4) and hitting percentage (.400). ISU also ranks second in Division I with 14.2 assists per frame, led by Morgan Brandt's NCAA leading 12.2 assists per set. Tierney Jackson has notched a conference-best .536 hitting clip, with Alea Goolsby notching 3.27 kills per frame and Preseason All-Big 12 outside hitter Maya Duckworth posting 2.6 kills a set.
