Redshirt freshman earns first career conference honor after game-tying goal at Murray State.
ST. LOUIS --- UNI soccer's Allison Flies has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
The selection is the first weekly conference honor for the redshirt freshman out of Apple Valley, Minnesota.
Flies, who joined the Panthers as a transfer from Utah Tech in the offseason, was responsible for scoring UNI's game-tying goal on a head shot in the 87th minute in a 1-1 tie at Murray State last Thursday in Kentucky, helping provide a key point for Northern Iowa in the MVC standings. In addition to her goal, she was the only UNI player to play all 90 minutes in the Panthers' road matches at Murray State and Belmont last week.
Flies has scored twice this season, her other goal coming against Indiana State earlier this month. She is one of ten different goal scorers for the Panthers this season and one of five to net multiple goals. On the year, Flies has taken seven shot attempts and five shots on goal.
In addition to Flies, Belmont's Reagan Ross was named the MVC's Player of the Week, Indiana State's Brooklyn Woods the Defensive Player of the Week and Illinois State's Madi Valenti the league's Goalkeeper of the Week.
Flies and the Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 4 as they visit Valparaiso for a 5 p.m. CT kickoff with live coverage available on ESPN+.
