UNI wrestling finishes sixth in Division I attendance average for 2024-25 season

NEW BRIGHTON, Minn. --- The UNI wrestling team notched the nation's sixth highest attendance average during the 2024-25 season according to the National Wrestling Media Association (NWMA).

In six home events during their 2024-25 campaign, the Panthers averaged 4,222 fans at home, an increase of 1,119 fans per event (36%) from a year ago. Northern Iowa recorded its two highest attended duals inside the McLeod Center with an all-time arena record 7,348 fans in attendance against Iowa State, while UNI's dual against Oklahoma State drew 6,030 spectators. UNI was one of six Division I programs to average over 4,000 fans this year.

UNI has ranked inside the top-20 nationally for attendance every year since the 2007-08 season and have cracked the top-ten six times in the last 12 years (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2023, 2025).

Iowa led Division I attendance for an 18th consecutive year with an average of 13,640 attendees this past season, while Penn State ranked second (9,007). Northern Iowa ranked third among programs in the Big 12 Conference behind third-ranked Oklahoma State (7,596) and fourth-ranked Iowa State (5,533).

Founded in 1989, the NWMA is a professional organization of wrestling journalists, photographers, content creators and athletic communications professionals. The group assumed the responsibility of tracking Division I wrestling attendance records in 2017. More information on the NWMA can be found at nationalwrestlingmedia.com.
