UNI softball looks to complete the series sweep after a 6-1 victory on Saturday.

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The Panthers opened game two against the Beacons early and never looked back as they cruised to a 6-1 victory in game two of the series at Robinson-Dresser.

HOW IT HAPPENED

A four-run first inning from UNI gave the Panthers an early lead after a two-run home run from Kylee Sanders scored Skylar Benesh and an RBI single from Ella Smithson drove in Kate Lappe and Addison McElrath. Valpo scored their lone run of the contest in the top of the second inning on a bases-loaded single.

A two-RBI double from Addison McElrath drove in Benesh and Sanders to give UNI a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. The McElrath double was the last scoring play of the contest as the Panthers took home a 6-1 victory in the second game of the series.

BY THE NUMBERS

Both Skylar Benesh and Kylee Sanders recorded a trio of hits apiece while Addison McElrath and Ella Smithson came through with a pair of hits. Sanders, McElrath, and Ella Smithson all finished with two RBIs. Carly Goodwin picked up her sixth victory of the season with a complete game against the Beacons. Goodwin punched out one batter in her seven-inning appearance.

UP NEXT

The Panthers will honor their seniors on Sunday, May 4 with the third and final game of the series against Valparaiso. First pitch is slated for 12 p.m. CT with streaming available on ESPN+.
