ST. LOUIS --- UNI's Katie Fare has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Women's Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon. This marks the fourth time she has earned the honor this year and first of the 2025 outdoor season.
Recognition comes for the Panther redshirt senior and Loves, Park, Illinois native after she put on an impressive performance last week at the Drake Relays in Des Moines, winning the women's shot put championship division for her first-ever Drake Relays title with a career-best throw of 17.23 meters, the second-best mark in program history.Â
Fare, who in February captured the MVC's indoor shot put title and was named the MVC Indoor Championships' Most Outstanding Women's Field Athlete, currently leads the conference in the shot put this outdoor season and 17th in all of Division I. She also ranks third in the conference in the hammer throw (55.33m)
Drake's Emilie Meyer was also named the MVC's Women's Track Athlete of the Week, while Indiana State's Casey Hood Jr. (track) and Will Staggs (field) swept the men's weekly honors.
Fare and the Panthers return to action this Saturday, May 3 at the Musco Twilight at the Francis X. Cretzmeyer Track in Iowa City.
