UNI softball falls in final home non-conference test of the season, 6-2

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — UNI softball hosted the Iowa State Cyclones in its final non-conference contest at Robinson-Dresser Sports Complex for the 2025 season. The Cyclones jumped out to an early lead and never looked back as the Panthers fell by a 6-2 final in Cedar Falls.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Iowa State opened the game early with four runs including a two-run home run in the first inning and single runs in the tops of the fourth and fifth innings to take a 4-0 lead. An RBI single from Kylee Sanders scored Paige Peterson to score the first Panther run of the night.

The Cyclones tacked on two more in the top of the sixth inning to take a 6-1 lead. The Panthers looked to mount a comeback and tacked on a run off the bat of Addison McElrath to cut the deficit to four but the Cyclone defense stood tall, turning a double play to end the game.

Skylar Benesh was a perfect 2-for-2 at the plate with a double. Addison McElrath was the other lone Panther to tally double-figure hits with a pair on four at-bats.

UP NEXT

UNI travels to Normal, Illinois to take on the Illinois State Redbirds in the Panthers' first road contest in 17 days on Friday, April 25. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT and will be available on ESPN+.
