Panthers drop home tennis match to Murray State

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team fell to Murray State on Thursday afternoon, 7-0, in a hard-fought Missouri Valley Conference matchup. Despite several close battles in doubles and singles, the Panthers came up short at home against the Racers.
UNI pushed Murray State to the limit in the doubles round, with two matches going to tiebreakers. Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso narrowly fell in the number one spot, 7-6 (10-8), while Kim Zizek and Andjela Raznatovic battled before dropping their match 7-6 (7-4). Laysa Mylavarapu and Abbie Peterson fell 6-3 in the number three spot, giving Murray State the team point.
In singles play, Dalecka faced Valeria Chaikovskaia at the number one position and fell 6-0, 6-1. Cardoso put up a strong fight against Varya Alexyeva but came up short, 7-5, 6-3. Zizek was defeated by Yu Kikawa, 6-0, 6-3, while Raznatovic battled Bruna Melato in a 6-3, 6-4 loss.
At the number five position, Kanyanut Sudsaard was topped by Paola Campigotto, 6-1, 6-0. Mylavarapu closed the day with a tightly contested match against Rebecca Windan at number six, forcing a third-set tiebreak before falling 6-3, 4-6, 10-7.
UNI moves to 4-13 on the season and 3-4 in MVC play. The Panthers will compete in their last regular-season game with another home match tomorrow against Missouri State.
