
Panther wrestling rides to 33-6 win at North Dakota State

UNI finishes undefeated in Big 12 road duals in rout of Bison. Panthers host Iowa State on Senior Day next Sunday.
FARGO, N.D. --- The UNI wrestling team earned three bonus point wins and eight total victories on Saturday night as the Panther Train rolled to a 33-6 road dual win at North Dakota State, 33-6.
Northern Iowa improves to 12-1 overall and 6-1 in Big 12 Conference duals after grabbing its eighth win over the Bison in its last nine matchups. UNI also finishes a perfect 3-0 in Big 12 road duals this season and picks up its 12th dual win of the season for just the third time under head coach Doug Schwab (2011, 2017, 2025).

HOW IT HAPPENED
Kyle Gollhofer got the Panther Train started at 125 pounds, facing off against Tristan Daugherty. After a scoreless first period, Gollhofer struck in the second period with a swift escape and a takedown securing a lead into the third period. Maintaining control, Gollhofer sealed the win with one final takedown, claiming a 7-0 victory.
At 133 pounds Panthers, Cory Land stepped onto the mat to face No. 32 Kyle Burwick. Land came in right off the whistle with a takedown in the first period, followed by the pair exchanging reversals. In the lead heading into the second period, Land gave up a reversal, but would ultimately fall 6-5 after Burwick was awarded a penalty point and a riding time point.
Freshman Carter Freeman went to battle at 141 pounds against Michael Olsen in a hard-fought match. After a scoreless first period, both wrestlers earned an escape, tying the score 1-1 to force overtime. Patiently waiting for the right moment, Freeman delivered the final takedown to win 4-1 in the first round of sudden victory.
No. 14 Colin Realbuto put on a dominant performance against No. 27 Gavin Drexler at 149 pounds. After initially giving up a takedown, Realbuto quickly bounced back, earning an escape and a takedown to take a 4-3 lead into the second period. In the second, he turned up the heat, scoring three additional takedowns and a penalty point after Drexler was called for stalling. Realbuto kept the pressure on throughout the third period, tallying three more takedowns and securing a 24-9 technical fall win. Â
At 157 pounds, Cael Rahnavardi fought a tough match against Max Petersen. After giving up an early takedown, Rahnavardi responded with a reversal to close the gap heading into the second period. Petersen added another takedown in the second, but Rahnavardi managed a final reversal. Rahnavardi ultimately dropped the match 9-7 after Petersen was awarded a riding time point.Â
Jack Thomsen dominated in the third period to secure his win against Boeden Greenley at 165 pounds. After grabbing an early takedown in the first, Thomsen let Greenley up for a lone escape in the second period. Sweeping for a final takedown in the third Thomsen remained in control to earn a riding time point and finalize his win 8-2.
At 174 pounds, No. 16 Jared Simma scored four takedowns on his way to defeating Devin Wasley 17-2, earning a technical fall just seconds into the second period. After last facing off in 2022 at the Dendrick Open and winning 6-2, Simma continued his winning streak against Wasley. Simma now holds three technical fall victories this season bringing his total to seven in his Panther career.Â
No. 2 Parker Keckeisen kept the momentum while wrestling against No. 32 Aidan Brenot at 184 pounds. With two takedowns in each period, Keckeisen cruised to a 22-7 technical fall victory, adding two penalty points after Brenot was called for stalling twice. Keckeisen has now won 11 straight matches in bonus points and 51 straight regular season matches dating back to 2023.
No. 12 Wyatt Voelker (197 pounds) secured another Panther technical fall win against the Bison, defeating Tayshaun Glover in the second period. Voelker has now tallied six technical fall victories this season, bringing his collegiate career total to nine.
No. 15 Lance Runyon rounded out the night for Northern Iowa in a hard-fought battle against Drew Blackburn-Forst at heavyweight. After securing the only takedown of the first period, Runyon added an escape and a penalty point in the second, carrying the lead into the third. Runyon then earned another takedown, along with a penalty point and a riding time point to secure a dominant 10-1 major decision.

UP NEXT
The Panthers return to action next Sunday as they host No. 14 Iowa State in the final home dual of the season at 1 p.m. CT. UNI's senior class will be honored prior to the first dual with live coverage available on FloWrestling and CFU Channel 15.
