Panthers defeated by Blue Jays

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — The UNI women's tennis team competed against Creighton at its home court in Waterloo on Saturday. The Panthers came up short against the Blue Jays, 6-1. Despite the team loss, Lorena Cardoso secured a singles victory.
In singles action, Lorena Cardoso picked up a win over Valerie Negin in the number two spot, 4-6, 6-1, 10-8. Darta Delecka dropped her first set 6-1 and lost her second 6-2 to Binaca Rademacher. Kim Zizek was also unable to defeat her opponent, Ana Paula Martinez, losing her first set 6-2 and second set 6-4.
Andjela Ranzmatovic battled through a tight first set but ultimately fell 7-6 before dropping the second set 6-0 to Philippa Roy. Kayanut Sudsaard fought through two competitive sets against Olivia Minikelbut but came up short, falling 6-2, 6-3. Meanwhile, Abbie Peterson struggled against Alem Cote, getting swept in the first set before losing the second 6-2.
In doubles action, the number one duo, Dalecka/Cardoso, battled in a close match but were unable to defeat Negin/Rademacher, falling 7-5. Zizek/Sudsaard fell 6-2 to Minikel/Martinez, while Peterson/Mylavarapuwere unable to put up points and lost 6-1 to Karli Vo/ Alem Cote.

The Panthers will take on Gustavus Adolphus on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT in Waterloo at the Black Hawk Tennis Club.
