Sophomore forward scored both goals in UNI’s first conference win of the season over the weekend.
ST. LOUIS --- UNI soccer's Haylee Braun has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning.
The selection is the first weekly conference honor for the sophomore forward/midfielder out of Fenton, Missouri.
Braun, a second-year player out of Nernix Hall High School in Missouri, scored both Panther goals in Northern Iowa's 2-1 road victory at Valparaiso on Saturday, securing UNI's first MVC win of the season. Her first goal came with the Panthers trailing by one in the 37th minute unassisted to tie the match, while her second came in the 73rd on a pass from Kylie Knief.
Braun's two goals over the weekend were her second and third of the season, as well of her career. Having played all 11 matches so far this year, she also joins fellow Panthers Olivia Knoepfle, Macy Smith, Denise Camarena, Sydney Burskey and Allison Flies as UNI's sixth multi-goal scorer this year.
In addition to Braun, Drake's Alanna Pennington was named the MVC's Defensive Player of the Week, Southern Illinois' Reagan Miller the league's Goalkeeper of the Week and Illinois State's Grace Petrie the MVC Freshman of the Week.
Braun and the Panthers return to action on Saturday, Oct. 11 as they host Illinois State at 1 p.m. CT at the UNI Soccer Field. Live coverage of the match can be found on ESPN+. Fans attending are encouraged to wear green for UNI's annual Kick MITO Game in support of mitochondrial disease awareness.
