HOW IT HAPPENED
After a scoreless first period, Trever Anderson scored the first point of the 125-pound match against No. 23 Antonio Lorenzo with a second period escape, but would fall behind after being taken down. Despite adding an escape from the takedown, Anderson was unable to pressure his opponent late, falling by a 3-2 score.
At 133 pounds, Julian Farber overcame a slow start against No. 22 Cleveland Belton, scoring an escape following a takedown and notching his own takedown for a 4-2 lead. Farber would add on with two additional takedowns in the third period to roll to a 12-3 major decision to put the Panthers on the board.
Sixteenth-ranked Mosha Schwartz would give Cael Happel a major challenge at 141 pounds. After taking a 3-1 lead on a second period takedown, Schwartz took a 5-3 lead on a takedown at the buzzer to end the second period, and would hold off a late rally by Happel, who scored a takedown with 25 seconds remaining in regulation. Schwartz's 9-7 decision marked his second career win over Happel, and second straight dual win over his UNI challenger.
Colin Realbuto (149 pounds) kept Panther fans on the edge of their seats to the very end against No. 11 Willie McDougald, overcoming a three-point hole early. Trailing 4-1 in the second frame, Realbuto would score on a stalling point and escape to open the third period before scoring the winning takedown with six seconds to go for a 6-4 decision win.
Ryder Downey made quick work of Owen Eck at 157 pounds, scoring a takedown, followed by consecutive four-point nearfalls to cruise to 15-0 technical fall victory. Downey improves to 7-6 in his career, and 2-0 this year coming off a loss.
Out of the intermission, Jack Thomsen (165 pounds) took down Mannix Morgan for a takedown and rode him out for much of the first period. Four back points would extend Thomsen's lead to six before scoring another takedown within the first minute of the third frame. A second four-point nearfall pushed Thomsen deeper into bonus point territory in the third with riding time securing a 15-2 major win for Thomsen, his eighth bonus point victory of the season.
The 174-pound bout between Jared Simma and No. 8 Gaven Sax would go down to the wire. After Simma went ahead with a first period takedown and a scoreless second frame with over a minute of riding time built up for Sax, Sax would get a late takedown of Simma in the closing second with riding time, plus a penalty point to hand Simma the 5-3 loss.
Parker Keckeisen continued to dominate at 184 pounds, making quick work of Eli Cordy with three takedowns in each of the first three periods en route to a commanding 21-6 technical fall win. Keckeisen extends his regular season winning streak to 50 matches with his ninth consecutive bonus point victory.
Like in his preceding match, Wyatt Voelker (197 pounds) put the heat early in his matchup with Anders Thompson, scoring five takedowns in the first three minutes of action. Two additional takedowns would push Voelker to a 22-7 technical fall victory, his 11th bonus point win of his redshirt sophomore season.
Adam Ahrendsen closed the night out at heavyweight against No. 26 Juan Mora, putting up a challenge early before falling behind 7-2 on a Mora takedown in the second stanza. Ahrendsen would score on a pair of escapes in the final minutes, but came up short in a 15-5 major decision loss.
