CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- The UNI men's and women's golf teams will kick off the fall portion of its 2024-25 season in the coming days on the road in tournaments in the midwest region.Â
The Panther women will open the year at Illinois State's Redbird Invitational running Sept. 8-9 at the D.A. Weibring Golf Course in Normal, Illinois, while the men head to Madison, Illinois in the greater St. Louis area for SIU Edwardsville's Derek Dolenc Invitational at the Gateway National Golf Links. Tee times for both events have yet to be announced.
The Panther women's, who will play a 36-hole shotgun start on Sunday and 18 holes on Monday on the par-71, 6,915-yard course returns eight from their roster a year ago, led by redshirt senior Anna Jensen, who tied for fifth at last spring's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships and posted an average score of 75.66 last season. Victoria Hualde also returns for Northern Iowa after averaging 76.37 last season and took fourth-place individually in the MVC Championships. Anna Nacos also returns to the links after averaging 78.92 last season and finishing in a tie for 25th at the MVC Championships.
This year's women's field of teams in Normal includes IU Indianapolis, Valparaiso, Loyola-Chicago, Evansville, Illinois Wesleyan, Northern Illinois, Drake, Little Rock, South Dakota, Bradley, Indiana State, Butler and the host Illinois State.
On the men's side, the Panthers will also play a 36-hole shotgun on Monday with an 18-hole round on the par-71, 7,092-yard course on Tuesday to open their season with 11 returning from the 2023-24 roster. Redshirt senior JD Pollard returns to lead the UNI men after tying for 18th place at the MVC Championships and recorded an average round score of 73.81. Connor Van Weelden is another key returner for the purple and gold as he tied for 36th at the conference championships with a season average of 74.91, while Nile Petersen posted a 76.63 average. Sophomore Tanner Dinnebier looks to also have a big year after a strong freshman campaign a year ago that included a tie for 45th place at the MVC Championships and a 76.57 season average.
The men's field will include teams from 18 schools, including host SIU Edwardsville, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, Drake, Weber State, Western Illinois, Missouri State, Green Bay, Wichita State, Bradley, Lindenwood, Utah State, Bellarmine, South Dakota, Southern Indiana, Eastern Illinois and Southern Illinois.
