CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI soccer will take to the trip across Highway 20 and down Interstate 35 on Sunday evening for its first road match of the 2024 season as it visits in-state rival Iowa State in Ames.
Kickoff is scheduled for 7Â p.m. CT at the Cyclone Sports Complex, with live coverage also available on ESPN+
Northern Iowa enters Sunday's contest looking for just its second win ever against Iowa State, which came back in 2018 in a 1-0 victory in Ames. The Panthers battled the Cyclones to a scoreless draw in their last regular season meet during the spring 2021 season.
Sunday's match will also mark a special milestone for the program as it plays on the 25th anniversary of its first-ever match on Aug. 25, 2000 against SEMO, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.
While remaining unbeaten through the first two matches of the year, UNI will have the chance to extend another streak as it looks to continue its eight-match regular season non-conference winning streak. The Panthers last lost a non-conference regular season match in 2022 against Iowa.
The Panthers head to Ames coming off a 5-1 home win over Western Illinois this past Sunday, a match where UNI tied a school record with five goals scored in the first half. Morgan Barnette notched her first multi-goal match by netting two goals in the first 12 minutes of play, while Olivia Bohl, Lauren Heinsch and Marissa Gross also found the back of the net. Gross' goal in the 35th minute was the first of her career.Â
Last Sunday's match also saw the collegiate debuts of Abby Bell, Liberty Bates, Ella Ubben and Kylie Knief, all who played at least 15 minutes. In net, Caitlin Richards surrendered just one goal with a pair of saves, steadying her career goals allowed average at 1.14.

SCOUTING THE CYCLONES
Three matches into the 2024 season, Iowa State has tallied one match in each the win, loss and draw column. ISU opened the season with a 3-0 victory over Western Illinois on Aug. 15 before dropping a 2-1 contest three days later to Creighton. The Cyclones most recently battled Drake to a 1-1 tie in Des Moines on Thursday.
Having scored just five goals through three matches, Iowa State looks to jump start its offense as it prepares for a competitive Big 12 season ahead. ISU was tabbed to finish 15th in the now 16 team Big 12 Conference in its annual preseason coaches poll.
Cyclone head coach Matt Fannon will be looking for history on Sunday as he looks for his 100th career victory as a head coach. Fannon has led ISU to an 18-39-11 record in four-plus seasons, having previously coached at Bowling Green and Wittenberg (Division III).
Forwards Magdalena Keck and Morgan Furmaniak lead the Iowa State offense with two goals each, while defender Chloe Broughton tallied ISU's only other goal this year. In goal, Avery Gillahan has started all three contests for the Cyclones, giving up just one goal in each match and recording nine total saves.
