Panther student-athletes excel in spring 2024 semester

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- UNI student-athletes recorded another breakout semester in the classroom during the spring 2024 term.

The spring semester saw all 15 Panther teams record a semester and cumulative grade-point average (GPA) over 3.00, including nine programs registering over 3.50 for both averages. Collectively, UNI student-athletes posted a semester and cumulative GPA of 3.41, surpassing the metrics laid out in the athletic department's strategic plan.

"Everyday our student-athletes demonstrate their best in the classroom and this past semester was no different," said Andrea Greve Coello, UNI's Associate Athletic Director for Student-Athlete Development. "We are incredibly proud of the hard work and dedication that our student-athletes put into balancing their academic and athletic careers and look forward to their continued growth and success!"

UNI's women's basketball team led the way with the highest term GPA for all Panther teams for the third time in the past five semesters with a 3.83 GPA during the previous academic term, with men's basketball registering the highest semester GPA among men's programs (3.45). The Panther swimming and diving team recorded the largest semester GPA improvement from the fall 2023 term with a quarter-point improvement for a 3.69 spring GPA.

Individually, 325 of UNI's 399 student-athletes (81%) registered a semester GPA of 3.00 or higher this spring, with 55% coming in at 3.50 or higher. Cumulatively, 80% of Panthers maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or better, with 51% of the department over 3.50.
