Panther men’s golf wraps second round of MVC Championships

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. --- Connor Van Weelden sank an impressive eagle on his first hole of the day on Monday as UNI men's golf continued play at the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships at The Club at Porto Cima.
In a tough afternoon on the course, the Panthers would shoot a combined 308 in the round, maintaining their tenth-place team standing in the team race. Tournament-leading Southern Illinois also faced a challenging second round with a 287, but maintained a 14-stroke lead over second-place and host Missouri State.
JD Pollard sits in a three-way tie for 25th place after shooting a 78 (+6) on Monday with three birdies, but shot six-over on the fifth hole. Despite five bogeys on the day, Griffin Parker sank four birdies to record a one-shot improvement from Sunday's opening round with a 75 (+3) to pull into a tie for 28th place.
Van Weelden's eagle came on the tenth hole to begin the day, the seventh eagle of this year's tournament. The Panther senior would have difficulty on his final three holes of the round, shooting a triple bogey on the eighth hole and four-over on the ninth, recording a 79 (+7) to tie for 33rd place.
Tanner Dinnebier improved on his first round score by three shots with birdies on the first, twelfth and fifteenth holes on Monday to card a 77 (+5) to pull into a tie for 41st place. Northern Iowa would make a substitution ahead of the second round, inserting Nile Petersen into the lineup for Brock Seiser, with Petersen scoring a 78 (+6).
The final round of the MVC Men's Golf Championships will see off on Tuesday morning beginning at 8 a.m. CT.
