UNI men’s golf: Pollard shoots even par in first round of MVC Championships

SUNRISE BEACH, Mo. --- UNI's JD Pollard overcame a tough double bogey on the front nine to finish the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Men's Golf Championships with an even par at The Club at Porto Cima on Sunday.
The Panthers finished the first day of the three-day, three round conference tournament sitting in tenth-place in the team standings with a total score of 302, two shots behind ninth-place Evansville. Southern Illinois leads the field after the first round with a score of 278.
Pollard bogeyed four of the first five holes on the day, including a double bogey on the par-three third hole, but rebounded with birdies on five holes, including the ninth, tenth and eleventh greens. The UNI junior currently sits in a tie for ninth-place on the individual leaderboard.
Connor Van Weelden sits in a tie for 20th place after shooting 74 (+2) on Sunday that included a pair of birdies on both the front and back nine. Griffin Parker also sank four birdies to shoot a 76 (+4) to finish the day tied for 33rd place.
Freshman Tanner Dinnebier sank par on 13 holes, but struggled late by shooting +4 on the par-four 18th hole, finishing with an 80 (+8) to conclude the first round in a tie for 44th place. Brock Seiser meanwhile finished with an 82 (+10).
The second round of the MVC Men's Golf Championships will see off on Monday morning beginning at 9 a.m. CT. Tee times have yet to be announced.
