UNI wrestling earns NWCA Scholar Team All-America honors for 2023-24

Panther Train posts the nation’s sixth-highest team grade-point average to round out 100th anniversary season.
MANHEIM, Pa. --- UNI posted the sixth-highest cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in all of NCAA Division I men's wrestling, earning National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Team Scholar All-America honors.
Recording a team GPA of 3.51, Northern Iowa cracked the top-ten list nationally for a second straight season and made the top-30 list for the eighth time in program history. UNI is one of just three Big 12 programs to make this year's top-30 list, joining South Dakota State (4th - 3.54) and Cal Baptist (18th - 3.42).
"We are immensely proud to recognize the exceptional commitment demonstrated by these athletes, who showcase remarkable dedication both on and off the wrestling mat," said Mike Moyer, Executive Director of the NWCA. "Our heartfelt congratulations extend to all the teams for their outstanding accomplishments."
The announcement of the NWCA Scholar Team All-America honor comes after a program record eight Panther wrestlers earned individual Scholar All-American recognition on March 29. UNI's eight selections were most among Big 12 teams and tied for second most in Division I.

Of UNI's eight selections, five qualified for the 2024 NCAA Championships, including a pair of Big 12 Conference champions:

- Jared Simma, Redshirt Sophomore | 174 pounds | Kinesiology and Exercise Science
- Connor Thorpe, Redshirt Sophomore | 141 pounds | Kinesiology and Exercise Science
- Wyatt Voelker, Redshirt Freshman | 197 pounds | Kinesiology and Exercise ScienceÂ
