Men’s basketball senior earns first weekly conference honor after second straight double-double game on Sunday.
ST. LOUIS --- UNI senior Tytan Anderson has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon.
The selection is the first weekly conference honor for Anderson, and marks the second consecutive week a Panther has won the award after Leon Bond III earned recognition last Monday.
A native of Eldridge, Iowa, Anderson posted a 15-point, ten rebound double-double on Sunday in UNI's 78-67 win over Southern Illinois in its MVC home opener. He shot six-of-seven from the field and a perfect three-for-three at the free throw line, moving into a tie for 36th on the program's all-time scoring list (1,048 points).
Sunday marked the second consecutive game that Anderson posted a double-double after notching 17 points and ten boards against Washington State in the Holiday Hoops Classic in Las Vegas prior to the holiday break. In addition to his double-double against the Salukis, the 19th of his career, Anderson also matched his season-high with four assists, plus two steals and one blocked shot.
Anderson is currently averaging 13.5 points per game through 13 games this season, as well as a team-high 6.5 rebounds per contest on 57.7% shooting, helping supplement a Panther offense that leads all of Division I men's basketball with a 52.3% shooting clip. With a team-high 17 steals on the year, he is also two steals shy of cracking UNI's top-ten list for career steals.
Anderson and the Panthers return to action on New Year's Day when they host Belmont at 8 p.m. CT inside the McLeod Center. Live coverage can be found on the MVC TV Network, as well as the Panther Sports Radio Network.
