ST. LOUIS — UNI junior Chase Knoche has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Thursday morning. The selection is the first weekly conference honor of his collegiate career.
The selection comes after a second-place performance in the 800-meter run at last weekend's Larry Wieczorek Invitational in Iowa City where he clocked a career-best time of 1:49.61, narrowly missing out on cracking UNI's all-time top-five list in the event. Knoche also contributed to the Panthers fifth-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay, running the third leg alongside teammates Onal Mitchell, Luke Meyers and Micaiah Ellis.
A native of Calamus, Iowa, Chase is the son of James and Trina Knoche, and is currently majoring in kinesiology and exercise science, with a minor in strength and conditioning.
Other MVC track and field honorees this week include Murray's States Chelby Melvin (women's track), Drake's Adam Phillips (men's field) and Murray State's Jenna Pauly (women's field).
Knoche and the Panthers return to action on Friday afternoon at Wartburg's Friday Knight Lights, as well as the Black and Gold Invite in Iowa City on Friday and Saturday.
