CEDAR FALLS, IOWA — The UNI swimming and diving team will wrap up the dual meet portion of its 2023-24 season this weekend as the Panthers head east to take on the Illinois State Redbirds in a two-day event in Normal. Competition is scheduled for 5 p.m. CT on Friday night, followed by 11 a.m. CT events on Saturday.
The Panthers are coming off of a narrow loss to Iowa State last weekend at home, where they fell to the Cyclones 162-138 on senior day. Amber Finke led UNI by earning first-place in three individual events including the 100-yard backstroke (56.40), 200-yard backstroke (2:02.20) and the 200-yard IM (2:07.77), and a second-place finish in a 200-yard medley relay.
Reigning MVC 50-yard freestyle champion Faith Larsen also took home first-place overall in the 50 free, after clocking a time of 23.64. Abby Lear topped the field in the 100-yard freestyle (52.81), while Larsen and Morgan Meyer followed in second and third place.Â
In the diving well, Erica Peters posted another impressive one-meter dive performance of 264.45, taking second place overall in the dual and just narrowly missing an NCAA Diving Zones cut by 0.55 points.
UNI last met the Redbirds in January 2023 at home in the Glen F. Henry Pool, topping their Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) rivals by a score of 198-155. The Panthers return multiple event winners from last year's dual, including Scout Bergwall (100 and 200-meter butterfly) as they attempt to record consecutive dual wins against the Redbirds for the first time since the 2018-19 and 2019-20 season.
