Panthers dominate the mat in relocated dual in Ames. UNI improves to 2-0 in Big 12 duals.
AMES, Iowa --- A frigid blizzard and blowing snow did not derail the Panther Train as UNI wrestling rolled to a 32-6 dual win over the Utah Valley Wolverines on Saturday night. Due to the winter weather conditions, the dual, which was originally scheduled to be held in Cedar Falls on Sunday, was moved to the Iowa State University campus, where Utah Valley had competed the night prior.
Northern Iowa clinched victories in eight of ten weight classes, and scored bonus points in four matches to improve to 2-0 in Big 12 dual competition. UNI has also split its last four duals overall.

Happel has now won five consecutive matches dating back to December. Ryder Downey won his fourth consecutive match of the year with a 14-2 major decision victory against Alex Emmer. Downey, the reigning Big 12 Wrestler of the Week, built an early lead on his opponent and scored three takedowns in the final two periods to secure the 12-point win.
RJ Weston worked quick out of the gate in the third period after a scoreless first two frames against Jaxon Garoutte, scoring an escape and a quick takedown for a 4-0 before securing a 5-1 decision to extend UNI's lead in the dual.
Jared Simma provided the match of the night with a thrilling come-from-behind victory in the final seconds of regulation against Caleb Uhlenhopp. After falling behind 4-0, Simma scored his first takedown of the match to pull within one point at the end of the second period, and tied the bout at 4-4 in the waning seconds. In a final push, Simma took Uhlenhopp down on the edge of the mat to score the winning takedown with one second remaining to grab the 7-5 decision.
