Panther golfers compete at Waterloo Open

UNI's Griffin Parker leads the way for Panthers at Iowa's longest running golf tournament
WATERLOO, Iowa --- Two Panther men's golfers finished in the top-ten at the 90th playing of the Waterloo Open, Iowa's longest running golf tournament on Sunday afternoon.
With the three rounds of the amateur tournament rotated between Waterloo's Gates Park, South Hills and Irv Warren Memorial Golf Courses, Griffin Parker led the field of four current Panthers tying for fifth place after shooting 211 on the weekend (-5). Parker, who led UNI with an average round score of 74.09 this past season, shot consecutive rounds of 68 (-4) on Friday and Saturday, but recorded a 75 in his final round (+3).
JD Pollard took home seventh place in this year's tournament with a final score of 213 (-3) following a 68 (-4) in Sunday's round. Pollard, who tied for 17th at April's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Championships, sank six birdies on the greens at Irv Warren, including back-to-back birdies on the 11th and 12th holes.
Brandon McCarty claimed a tie for 29th place with a total score of 222 (+6) for the weekend, which included four birdies in Saturday's second round at South Hills and a score of 69 (-3). Ben Bermel took 32nd place with a 224 (+8), leading off the weekend with a 72 (E) at Gates Park, and scoring eight total birdies in his first two rounds. Bermel also notched an eagle in his final round on Sunday on the 14th green at Irv Warren.
Former Panther Thomas Storbeck tied for eighth place in the amateur tournament, scoring a 214 (-2) with a 66 (-6) on Sunday.
Incoming Iowa State freshman Owen Sawyer claimed the amateur title with a final score of 202 (-6).
