CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --Â UNI softball has its first freshman All-American as named by D1Softball on Tuesday morning.
Freshman catcher Alexis Pupillo is the first Panther to make D1Softball.com's All-Americans list with her performance in 2023. This is the second time Pupillo has broken new ground for UNI in her first season, as she was the first Panther named to the TUCCI/NFCA Freshman of the Year Top 10 list. Pupillo led UNI in multiple categories in her first season with the Panthers, including batting average (.413), hits (66), doubles (14), home runs (17), total bases (135), and putouts (462).
Along with leading UNI statistically, Pupillo put her name into the Panther record book five times. Pupillo set new Top 5 records for UNI in total bases (T-2nd), home runs (T-3rd), slugging percentage (4th), runs scored (4th), and RBIs (5th). Nationally, the freshman catcher was in the Top 25 in five categories, including slugging percentage (11th), total bases (12th), home runs per game (17th), home runs (18th), and runs per game (24th).Â
Pupillo has been recognized for her spectacular freshman season as she was named the MVC Freshman of the Year. She was also named a member of the NFCA Midwest All-Region First Team, the All-Missouri Valley Conference First Team, and the 2023 MVC All-Tournament Team.Â
