ST. LOUIS --- UNI's Isaiah Trousil and Carter Morton have been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Male Track and Field Athletes of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon.
Trousil, this week's male track honoree, earns his second MVC outdoor award of the season, while Morton, the conference's top male field athlete of the week, earns his first honor of the outdoor season.
Both Panther athletes secured first place finishes this past weekend competing at the 113th Drake Relays in Des Moines, with both setting new personal marks in their events.Â
Trousil, a native of West Burlington, Iowa, won the men's 100-meter dash with a new career-best time of 10.14 seconds for his second career win at the Drake Relays in the university/college division. Trousil's time ranks first among conference sprinters, and is also 25th fastest in the nation. He also ran the third leg of UNI's 4x100-meter relay with teammates Tinashe Chigudu, Luke Meyers and Deonte Dean, helping record the second-fastest time in program history of 39.90 seconds in the preliminary heats en route to a second place finish.
Morton, a Jefferson, Iowa native and multi-event athlete, topped the podium at the Blue Oval in the decathlon with a new career-best score of 7,454 points to become the first Panther to win the Drake Relays decathlon since Daniel Gooris in 2013. Morton's point total, which registered as the fourth-highest in school history, currently leads the MVC and ranks 14th in the nation. The reigning most valuable athlete from the MVC's indoor track and field championships in February, Morton also placed sixth in the men's triple jump with a leap of 14.53 meters.
Other weekly award winners from around the MVC include Drake's Brooke Mullins (Female Track) and Murray State's Rachel Hagans).
Trousil and Morton return to action this Friday afternoon as the Panthers compete at the Wisconsin Alumni Classic in Madison. Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. CT.
