Panther sprinter won 100-meters at the Texas Relay, setting a new career-best time.
ST. LOUIS — UNI redshirt senior Isaiah Trousil has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Male Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. This is the second weekly conference honor of his career.
The selection comes after a standout performance in the 100-meter dash at last week's Texas Relays in Austin. Trousil, an All-Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) athlete during last year's outdoor season who competed as an unattached athlete during the indoor season, ran a 10.04 second mark in last Friday's preliminary heats with a 4.3 meter per second wind at his back, finishing in second place.
The Panther sprinter followed up his opening heat race with a 10.16 mark in the finals to take first place, his third career victory in the event. Running a time of 10.16 in the finals, Trousil set a new career-best mark by 0.07 seconds, the second fastest time in UNI history behind school record holder Brandon Carnes (10.06, 2017). Trousil's time currently ranks first in the MVC and sixth in the nation early in the outdoor campaign.
Trousil is a native of West Burlington, Iowa and a 2017 graduate of West Burlington High School. He is currently majoring in movement and exercise science.
Other MVC track and field honorees this week include Indiana State's Iyanla Hunter (Women's Track) and Wyatt Puff (Men's Track), and Murray State's Rachel Hagans (Women's Field).
Trousil and the Panthers return to action on Saturday, April 8 at the Fighting Illini Challenge at Demirjian Park in Champaign, Illinois at 11 a.m. CT.
