UNI Athletics sees record number of donors in 2023 with over $100,000 raised for Panther teams
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- On a record-breaking day of support, UNI Athletics saw $115,368 raised during the university's annual day of giving, Live Purple, Give Gold.
"Live Purple, Give Gold was a great success for UNI Athletics," said UNI Athletics Director David Harris. "We decided to change the format and give our supporters an opportunity to give directly to a sport of their choosing. Our donors responded with a record breaking level of support. The most encouraging part of the day was the number of people that gave to our sports programs for the very first time. Their giving sets the foundation for many years to come and gives us another reason to be thankful for the Panther Family and their tremendous generosity," Harris said. Â
For the first time, supporters of the Panthers were able to contribute to the athletic department as a whole or to a specific sports team of their choice. Each team also set goals for the day, with some including donor matches to help increase the impact of the day.
Including early contributions made ahead of the 24-hour day of giving on March 30, a record 1,010 total individuals contributed financial support to UNI Athletics, 63% of whom had never made a donation before. Shattering the previous record of $26,855 raised towards Panther athletics in 2021, 50% of the total donations were also from new donors.
