Redshirt junior named conference's female field athlete of the week for third time this year, first time in the outdoor season.
ST. LOUIS — UNI redshirt junior Katie Fare has been named the Missouri Valley Conference's (MVC) Female Field Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Wednesday afternoon. The selection marks Fare's first outdoor award of the season, and third time she has been honored as the conference's top female field athlete during the 2022-23 season.
Fare recorded a career-best toss of 16.58 meters (54' 4 ¾ ") en route to winning the women's shot put at the Fighting Illini Challenge last weekend in Champaign, improving her mark to the second longest throw in UNI history. Her career performance currently ranks first in the MVC this season, second in NCAA Division I's Midwest region and 23rd in the nation.
A native of Loves Park, Illinois, Katie is the daughter of Bill and Kristal Fare.
Other MVC track and field honorees this week include Indiana State's JaVaughn Moore (Men's Track), Murray State's Kayla Bell (Women's Track) and Drake's Anthony Barmes (Men's Field).
Fare and her fellow Panther throwers return to action this Friday and Saturday at the Sooner Invite in Norman, Oklahoma.
