ST LOUIS -- UNI softball picks up its third weekly recognition from the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) in under two weeks.Â
Freshman catcher Alexis Pupillo has been named the MVC Newcomer of the Week after the Panthers went 3-1 in Georgia last week. Pupillo has shown early in the season she is an all-around player for UNI, as she leads the team in putouts and stolen bases while being second in batting average among consistent starters.Â
Over the past week, the freshman catcher continues to be a key player for the Panthers both at and behind the plate. Pupillo led all UNI batters over the past week in wins against Mercer and Kennesaw State and a loss to Georgia Tech.
Pupillo was the only Panther to have a multi-hit game against the Yellow Jackets with a double, a home run, and two RBIs. In 13 at-bats last week, Pupillo slashed .462/.500/1.231 collecting six hits, launching three homers, and six RBIs. Pupillo also led UNI on defense, making 37 putouts with no errors while catching for all three Panther pitchers.Â
This is Pupillo's first Newcomer of the Week honor, as selected by Missouri Valley Conference staff. Last week UNI earned Player of the Week honors for redshirt senior Hannah Kelley and Pitcher of the Week honors for redshirt senior Kailyn Packard.Â
