ST LOUIS --Â In back-to-back weeks, a UNI softball pitcher has been recognized for her work in the circle by Missouri Valley Conference staff.Â
Samantha Heyer has picked up her second MVC Pitcher of the Week honor in as many weeks for her three appearances against the Murray State Racers. In the first week of conference action, Heyer continues to reach
new heights in the circle after another stellar weekend for the Panthers. In three games over the past week, Heyer made three appearances for a 2-0 record and picked up the save in UNI's second game of the series.
In her only complete game of the week on the back half of a doubleheader, Heyer pitched a one-hit shutout giving the Panthers free reign of offense to grab the 3-0 win. Heyer held the Racers well below their batting average at .051 during her 12 innings in the circle along with allowing only two hits. Heyer threw 24 strikeouts and no walks catapulting her into the Top 50 nationally for strikeout-to-walk ratio. She also moved to first in the conference in strikeouts and strikeouts per game at 112 and 10.8 respectively.
This is Heyer's second Pitcher of the Week honor after picking up her first on March 14. The Panthers have now had five players named to MVC weekly honors since the third week of the season. Infielder Hannah Kelley, catcher Alexis Pupillo, and pitcher Kailyn Packard have also been named to the conference weekly honors.Â
