Â
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa --- Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) dual competition begins on Sunday morning as the UNI Panthers welcome conference newcomer UIC to the Black Hawk Tennis Club in Waterloo.
Â
Winners of 3 of their last 5 non-conference duals, the Panthers look to continue their stretch of stellar play against the Flames. UNI last matched up with UIC in early 2016 in Chicago in a narrow 4-3 loss. The Flames trip to the Cedar Valley will be the second stop of their two-day road swing through Iowa, as UIC will face Drake on Saturday in Des Moines.
Â
In their last outing, the Panthers came up short at Milwaukee in a 5-2 loss, with Andrijana Brkic and Kanyanut Sudsaard picking up a pair of singles victories. UNI swept doubles and took home victories in 4 of 6 singles matches in its last dual win on March 3 at Wisconsin-Whitewater.
Â
Brkic carries a four-match winning streak in singles into Sunday's dual with a record of 21-5, including a 6-3 mark in her last 9 matches. Her next victory will put her in the top-15 all-time in UNI history for single-season wins.
Â
In doubles, Darta Dalecka and Lorena Cardoso have posted a 10-12 record as partners on the court, looking for a third straight win on Sunday.
Â
UIC is led in singles competition by Natalia Nikolopoulou, who carries a 12-8 record into this weekend. Cora-Lynn von Dungern holds an 8-4 record for the Flames in singles. In doubles play, Agnes Gustafson and Ana Jover led the way with 9 wins this season.
