UNI guard becomes 12th Panther to earn First Team honors. Led UNI in scoring with 17.9 points a game.
KANSAS CITY, Mo. --- UNI's Bowen Born has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) First Team All-District, as announced by the NABC on Tuesday morning. Selections for the 2022-23 All-District teams were voted on by head coaches in their respective districts.
Born, a Norwalk, Iowa native who just finished his third season with the Panthers, led UNI in scoring with 17.9 points per game and 573 total points on the year, 10th most in a single season in program history. The 5'11" guard recorded 3 games with 30+ points this season, including a career-high 34-point effort in UNI's Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Tournament quarterfinal game against Bradley. He also became the 45th member of UNI's 1,000 career point club on Feb. 18 with a win at Missouri State.
Born led the Panthers in three-point shooting with 80 made shots from beyond the arc, and posted a team-best 83.7% mark from the free throw line. His career free throw percentage of 84.2% ranks 5th highest in UNI history. Born was the MVC's 4th leading scorer and led the league in made free throws and free throw attempts.
The Panthers finished the 2022-23 season with a record of 14-18, and 9-11 in MVC play.
