
UNI track & field: Santi and Wedewer top the podium at Nebraska, Wartburg

Santi breaks her own school record in the 60-meter dash, while Wedewer notches career-best.
LINCOLN, Neb. — UNI track and field made multiple stops around the midwest this weekend as the Panthers competed at the Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational in Nebraska, while also sending athletes to Wartburg's Indoor Select Meet and the Iowa State Classic.

For a second consecutive meet, sprinter Rylan Santi made school history by breaking her own school record en route to victory in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.43 seconds. With her time drop of 0.06 seconds, Santi currently sits in a tie for 3rd in the Missouri Valley Conference in the event.
In the Heptathlon, Carter Morton once again raised the bar by setting new career-bests in the 60-meter dash, shot put and pole vault for a new career-high score of 5,698 points. Morton now holds the 3rd highest Heptathlon score in UNI indoor track and field history. Kelly Proesch also notched a 6th place finish in the Pentathlon with a final score of 3,340, setting new career-bests in four of the five events.
Tinashe Chigudu finished with a career-best time of 6.83 in the preliminary heats of the men's 60-meters, while clocking a 6.86 for a 4th place finish in the finals. In the women's 60-meter hurdles
Paige Kisley ran a 8.78 time in prelims of the women's 60-meter hurdles, while recording 8.96 seconds in the finals for an 8th place finish. Drew Bartels ran a 5th fastest time in school history and a career-best in the men's 60-meter hurdles with a time of 7.98 seconds in prelims. Bartels placed 5th in the finals (8.11 seconds) as fellow hurdler Jack Sumners followed right behind with a finish of 8.13 to take home sixth place.
Andrew Ferguson took home fifth place in the men's 400-meters with a career-best time of 48.77 seconds, as Onal Mitchell tailed behind to finish in sixth place (48.91 seconds). Three Panthers recorded season-best times in the women's 200-meters as Madelyn Sanda finished in 3rd place with a time of 25.47 seconds. Tyler Gray took 4th(25.51 seconds) while Ariana Yaklich placed 8th (25.69 seconds).
In field events, Alivia Silvestri tied for tenth in the pole vault (12 feet, 2.75 inches) and cracked UNI's top-10 all time, as Isabelle Holtzen recorded a season-best vault of 11 feet, 9 inches in 14th place. Makenna Wilson meanwhile took home 3rd place in the women's shot put (53 feet, 3.5 inches) with Mari Shavers placing 4th (52 feet, 7.5 inches).
Wartburg Indoor Select - Waverly, IA
Libby Wedewer clinched gold in the women's 60-meter dash for the Panthers in a career-best time of 7.68 second. Eva Van De Mortel finished in 4th place (7.80).
In the 200-meter Lindsey Sires took home 6th place (26.69 seconds) with Liv Freund placing 7th in the 800-meter making that her career-best time of 2:25.46.
Mia Rampton and Isabelle Schaffer both paced UNI with top-10 finishes in the women's mile and career-bests. Rampton took 5th place (5:13.70) with Schaffer in 7th (5:19.35). Brady Griebel clinched 5th place in the men's mile (4:24.20).
Amanda Lietz and Makinley Levin both competed in the Pentathlon with Lietz recording a career-best score of 3,003. Levin tallied a season-best score of 2,532. Colin Buch meanwhile scored a season-best score of 3,776 points for a 6th place finish in the Heptathlon.
Iowa State Classic - Ames, IA
Paige Holub placed 3rd in the women's mile with a career-best time of 4:57.75, while Emma Hoins finished in 5th place with a career-best time (4:58.44). Kate Crawford also clocked a career-best indoor mile time in 5:04.68 for a 10th place finish.
In mid-distance competition, Drake Hanson took 10th place in the men's 800-meters (1:51.34).
