Redshirt sophomore earns second weekly conference award from the Big 12 after top-four win last week at home.
IRVING, TEX. --- UNI wrestler Parker Keckeisen has been named the Big 12 Conference's Wrestler of the Week, as announced by the league office on Tuesday morning. The selection is the second time Keckeisen has received the weekly honor in his career, and is the second Panther to be honored this season (Cael Happel, Nov. 22).
Keckeisen earns conference recognition after recording a 7-5 decision over No. 4 Marcus Coleman in UNI's 19-12 dual loss to No. 3 Iowa State last Friday night at home. The redshirt sophomore, who ranks second in the nation at 184 pounds, earned his third win of the season over a top-5 nationally ranked opponent on Friday and fourth of his career.
Currently riding an 11-match winning streak, Keckeisen finished the Big 12 dual season unbeaten against conference opponents and sits at 17-1 overall on the season. The Glendale, Wisc. native is the two-time defending Big 12 champion at 184 pounds and a two-time All-American, having finished in third place at the NCAA Championships each of the past two seasons in his weight class.
Keckeisen, who is majoring in construction management at UNI, is the son of Lynne and James Keckeisen, and younger brother of Emma and Hannah.
Keckeisen and the Panthers return to action on Saturday night as UNI faces off against No. 18 Wisconsin in its final dual of the season at 7 p.m. CT in Madison. Fans can catch the dual online with a BTN+ subscription, and with live results also available on TrackWrestling.
