UNI men's golf: Six Panthers to compete at 2022 Waterloo Open

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - Six Panthers from the UNI men's golf team will compete in the amateur rounds of the Waterloo Open starting Friday.
The first round of the amateur tournament will be held at South Hills Golf Course in Waterloo, Iowa.
Ben Bermel, Jack Moody and Thomas Storbeck will open the day for UNI with a 7:50 a.m. start in the same pairing.
Incoming Panther JD Pollard will tee off at 10:20 a.m.
Griffin Parker, who led the Panthers at the 2022 Missouri Valley Conference Championships with an eighth-place finish, will tee off at 11:50 a.m.
Incoming Panther Brandon McCarty will be the last Panther to get started with a noon tee time.
Bermel, a senior from Cedar Falls, will be returning to the course after an injury cut his 2022 season short. He played in six of UNI's nine tournaments this last year, averaging 78.41 with a low round of 70 at the Jackrabbit Invitational in March.
Storbeck, a junior from Ventura, Iowa, tied for 25th place at the MVC Championships. He averaged 75.77 with a low round of 69 at the Zach Johnson Invitational. He competed in all nine of UNI's tournaments, placing in the top 25 of five competitions.
Moody, a junior from Cedar Falls, finished 37th at the MVC Championships. He averaged 78.15 with a low round of 71 at the Stampede at the Creek in April. He competed in seven of UNI's nine tournaments in the 2022 season.
McCarty and Pollard, UNI's two newest Panther transfers from Kirkwood Community College also will be competing.
McCarty was the 2022 Iowa Community College Athletic Conference 2022 Player of the Year, earning first team all-region honors this last season. He was part of the national qualifying and regional champion teams in 2021 and 2022 at Kirkwood.
Pollard averaged 74.5 with a low round of 63 last season at Kirkwood. He broke the 18-hole scoring record at Kirkwood by three strokes, helping the Eagles to a team title at the Wartburg Fall Invitational. He won the tournament with rounds of 78-63–141, edging out teammate McCarty (also now a Panther).
