CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The UNI soccer team has unveiled their complete 2022 season schedule that includes a program first.
For the first time since the program began in 2000, the UNI soccer team will host the entire non-conference portion of their season schedule. Through 17 games this season, the Panthers will spend 12 of those at home, not hitting the road for an away game until late September.
UNI will open with two exhibition games, hosting in-state competition Iowa State on Saturday, August 6 and traveling to St. Paul, Minn. for a game against Concordia University (Div. II) on Sunday, August 14. The Panthers will officially open the regular season against Grand View University at the UNI Soccer Field on Thursday, August 18.
Northern Iowa will then host their next seven games against non-conference and Missouri Valley competition alike. The longest home stand for Panther soccer in program history includes contests against South Dakota, Omaha, St. Ambrose, South Dakota St., St. Thomas, Iowa, and their first conference game of the season against Valparaiso.Â
UNI then hits the road for their first away game of the season against Illinois State on Thursday, September 22. The Panthers will have four other away games against Valley teams including new member UIC, an Indiana swing to see Evansville and Indiana State, and Southern Illinois. Between those games, UNI has home contests against Missouri State and in-state rivals Drake.
The Panthers will then wrap up the regular season with home games against the two other new members to the MVC, Murray State and Belmont. The top eight teams in the conference will then advance to the MVC tournament held over the next two weekends, ending with the championship game on Sunday, November 6.Â
