Two former UNI wrestling standouts compete to have shot at Team USA spot

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – Former UNI wrestling standouts Taylor Lujan and Drew Foster are competing for a chance to make Team USA's World Championship squad.

The 2022 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament is set for May 21-22 in Coralville, Iowa. The winners of the Panthers' brackets will advance to face the returning 2021 World medalist from their weight class in the Final X in New York City on June 8.

Final X is the last step in the Senior World Team Trials process to determine the 2022 U.S. Senior World Team that will compete in Belgrade, Serbia, Sept. 12-18.

Lujan, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, is seeded seventh at 79 kg. The winner will face Jordan Burroughs. Lujan has wins over top-seeded David McFadden and No. 4 seed Carter Starocci.

At 86 kg, 2019 NCAA champion Drew Foster, who was third at the 2021 U.S. Open, is seeded fifth. The winner faces David Taylor.
